Read about Toms custom adaptive fitness wheelchairs from Schmicking and Wolturnus
Two chairs, different purposes
We love custom work, so when Tom asked us to measure up a Wolturnus W5 for HYROX competitions to go alongside his Schmicking X-Design CrossFit/ Lifting chair, we jumped in.
From the full measure up and complete carbon wheel builds, to personalised graphics and specific features tailored for dedicated workouts – We explore what makes TG’s chairs so unique and specific to his training…
HYROX Wheelchair
Wolturnus W5
Built specifically for HYROX training (a form of functional fitness that combines endurance and strength workouts) this custom Wolturnus was designed with features tailored for specific workouts.
At the front, it has detachable steel hooks, each capable of holding a 24 kg kettlebell…
…and on the back, there’s a hook designed to pull 75 kg – perfect for exercises like sled pulls!
The chair is fully welded, except for the height-adjustable footrest.
Designed with a huge camber for maximum stability under heavy loads and paired with smooth high volume tyres for fast, precise turning.
Weightlifting Wheelchair
Schmicking X- Design
Toms Schmicking is designed purely for one thing, weightlifting.
With full bespoke reinforcement on the frame and wheels, heavy duty axle pins and removable anti tip for confidence when lifting heavy.
A solid back and custom side brackets with aluminum sheeting offers rigidity and protection.
The whole frame is fully welded with minimal camber to allow close proximity to weight machines and racks.
“Anything in life worth doing, is worth overdoing.
Moderation is for cowards”
Toms chairs are not your typical run of the mill wheelchairs – each have specific geometry and features to give him a competitive advantage. Although these chairs are designed with a sports application in mind, we work with all our customers to tailor specifics to suit their everyday life.
