A Love For Adventure Took A Sudden Turn In 2021
Meet Ki
A biking accident resulted in a T4 spinal cord injury for Ki but his spirit for an active life never wavered.
A broken back, neck, cracked ribs and punctured lung meant a 6 hour surgery before being transferred to Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
However this didn’t stop Ki from rediscovering thrills and conquering challenges, both on the trails and in his daily life.
He knew he needed to find the right equipment but where to start…
Back In The Saddle
Adaptive Adventure Awaits
In 2022, Ki discovered Adaptiv and the Inter Spinal Unit Games.
Through us, he encountered the freedom of Bowhead’s adaptive mountain bikes (aMTBs) and instantly shone with his background in biking and motocross.
With his new Bowhead Reach, Ki hit the trails, carving his own path to mountain biking bliss.
Afew years later, Ki got in contact – still loving his reach but wanting something for cardiovascular fitness, the Bowhead RX was the ideal next bike.

Reclaiming Independence
Whilst the bikes were dialled in from us, Ki’s wheelchair was not ideal for someone so active.
His ill-fitting, generic wheelchair restricted his independence and worsened his scoliosis.
Frustrated by the wait for a suitable active wheelchair, Ki knew he needed a change and reached out again.

Steve our OT, a seasoned expert in measuring custom wheelchairs, was there with the answer.
Together with Ki’s input he crafted a masterpiece: The Schmicking L-Design, a tailor-made active manual chair.
This lightweight marvel fit Ki like a glove, providing ergonomic trunk support for ideal posture without sacrificing freedom.
